the sounds of the letters of the alphabet

Discussion in 'Primary' started by jasonker1973, Mar 6, 2012.

  1. Has anyone got any great ideas/ resouces to help kids learn the sounds of the letters of the alphabet??
    Ta :)
  2. I'm afraid that the letters of the alphabet don't have sounds.
Do you mean the 44 speech sounds (phonemes)? And one way to reperesent each of them with a letter or letters?

maizie, does it irritate you (it does me) when you see "alliteration of the letter..."?
(Or is it a blunder you don't come across?)

I misread that as "I'm currently teaching children TO leave out the letters e and k completely" and spent 5 minutes singing the alphabet song without those letters and wondering what benefit that had. Dear oh dear! Is it Friday yet?!
  5. Letters and sounds is what is used in KS1 in my school.
I found that Alphabet Tea is a great song to suppport learning - avoids that really fast bit which some children blend into one letter - mnop !
  6. Some good ideas posted thanks.
I did mean phonemes for what its worth. Typo on my part :)[IMG]
