When I got back from having lunch with a friend today I found a large( about 2'x18"x1') parcel in the garden . It was very heavy to lift and it took ages to unpack. There was a mass of bubble wrap and little inflated bags and lots of cardboard, brown paper and sticky tape. There was no label to say who had sent it or where it had come from. It was an unusual present and it was extremely old. What do you think it was?

    Is it a decorative plate?

    A child's toy (wooden) or music/jewellery box?

HHHmmmn damn my skim reading 'it was very heavy to lift'

A very heavy plate????;) A stone wall plaque type thingy

Not the wall plaque as there's a double consonant....:D

The missing diamonds from the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit robbery.

Nope so far. Duke is the nearest in a sort of a way.

Was going to say a bus conductor/clippy machine (I got one a few years ago, to fulfil a childhood ambition of doing that, turny, chinking, windy handle thing)

That brings back memories! It wasn't that though. It is very much older.

No. That would have been nice. This was more unusual.

Will you be telling us before bed-time? (This is going to kill me not knowing now!)
  13. Lascarina

Nope. You can't wear this or use it to transport you anywhere.

    Haha! Just noticed this!

Probably not, because it's my bedtime already and I'd like to see if anyone can work out what it is.

Tee hee. I hadn't seen that. This is not a tricky game. This is something that really happened.

Is it's main function just to be downright gorgeous?

    An old typewriter?

No idea I'm afraid Lascarina. Can't think of anything 'old and heavy'.
Edit like @Spiritwalkerness idea though. Good one!

But I too have received a 'real mystery' parcel.

Large, lightweight parcel from a well known firm where I regularly shop. However all the things I've ordered have been delivered and as my younger son had ordered something for his wife to be delivered here I took it across to him. No that was much too large- wasn't his!
Decided to open it to find a large cardboard red corrugated box with a beautiful gold ribbon- obviously goft-wrapped. ? I've not ordered anything gift wrapped? decide to carefully open the ribbon and see if it was something delayed which I'd ordered and forgotten.
Lots of bubble wrapping and . . . . . . ..Well i definitely hadn't ordered that. husband never uses the internet so can't be him. So I now have to tactfully ask around to see if someone has ordered said article for me for Christmas and had it delivered straight here!

Not diamonds but carbon...a scuttle full of coal from Kellingley Colliery?

    Sad day

I sent several texts asking people if they knew anything about the thing in my parcel but so far have drawn a blank.

We need more clues for yours, Lara.
