Maybe should have started this on Saturday for the Germany friendly but was looking after the inlaws.

So, a friendly against the Dutch tonight. Starting lineup...

playing 4-2-3-1. The 'pear-shaped' or 'hourglass' formation.
I think Vardy, Kane and Alli are a damn fine combination, hope to see that in June. I don't think Rooney should go.

Someone's got to carry the bags emily.

I'd play Barkley where Drinkwater is mostly because I have no idea who he is.

Personally I think every formation should be named after a piece of fruit.

"Tell me Roy, do you think playing that Papaya formation in the second half really did the trick or should you have stuck to the Apple formation you started with.

"Well, Gary, the main reason we abandoned the Apple was it was rotten to the core"

Sturridge is offside and the game hasn't even started yet!

Surprised he isn't injured yet - only a matter of time.

Drinkwater is a Leicester player who's been on the England fringes for a bit. Barkley's only just in front of him.
Sturridge - he's great when/if fit. Hope he makes it. Butland is a big blow :( didn't think he'd fractured his ankle on Saturday, just sprained it.

I was kidding about Drinkwater !

As long as nobody tells Sturridge to "Break a leg" before the game he'll be fine.

My son has just turned to me and said 'it's our year' .... Oh dear. Having flashbacks to the England v Portugal shoot out. Poor wee boy with tears streaking his face paint. Triumph of hope over experience. It's the hope that kills you as we all know. Maybe ....

i'm not hoping to win. just hoping that the team will do its best, and not stop playing their hearts out. the team that played on saturday looked like a team - that's not happened for some years.

You've actually got a team for a change. Unlike Scotland who look like a line up of teenage shoplifters.

And I turned over to support Italy just in time to watch Germany score.

Vardy! That was a great move. They're playing like a club side.
Who are they, and what have they done with England?

i'm more hopeful than i've been for a while, but that doesn't mean my glasses have suddenly gone all pink. football has a knack of crushing your dreams most emphatically.

    Start with low expectations.

Three wins in a row - perfect to set us up for a good tournament...oh, wait

Provided Roonpig doesn't make it anywhere near the starting XI, England will have a more exciting tournament than usual.
