As there is the distinct possibility the nation will vote for the Altenative Vote system in May, it presents the opportunity to form the Food Party and maybe get a candidate or two elected. Who's up for it? What will our policies be?

Teach food and nutrition in schools as core subject.
Control supermarket pricing policies that harm British producers.
Increase taxation on fast food takeaways.
Ban stupid policies on bent cucumbers and mis-shapen fruit and veg.
    Ban all factory farming.
Ban the export of live animals for food.

Ban the linking of junk foods to characters on TV,
Stop supermarkets selling trashy junkfood as BOGOF while pricing fresh fruit and veg out of the pocket of the poorest.
Revamp school dinners. Maybe not back to the old-days of only one option, but say, no more than 3 main course options and 2 puds. All food to be cooked on the premises - and cooked does not mean defrost and reheat.
No pop, choc, crisps or sweets allowed in school. (we coped without a choccie bar at break, so can today's youngsters)
Supermarkets to be heavily fined for over-packaging.
Supermarkets and restaurants to be heavily fined for wasting food.
A rethink on the Health and Safety rules that force shops/restaurants to bin perfectly good food rather than being allowed to give it away to needy causes.
All meat to be clearly labelled - especially imported meat - to show if it is Halal. Schools, Hospitals and Restaurants to be forbidden from using Halal meat for all meals without informing parents/patients/customers. (It is not a religious question, I just believe Halal meat is slaughtered inhumanely and want to be able to make an informed choice)

(And an undertaking to abolish the despicable policies of the company ATOS and a realisation that GPs and specialists know their patients well enough to make correct assessments....OK not food related, but any party to promise this gets my vote!)
