A group of Finnish scientists will present a report to the UN this week re the implications of climate change for the global economic system.
I heard this on radio news this morning, but can't find an english version online (although it does come up in the BBC's world site here https://www.bbc.com/mundo/noticias-49234278 )

Wouldn't the end of capitalism require the removal of capitalists? And the dispossession of everything they own into state hands? (I think it has been written about before over 150 years ago).

I think it's been obvious for quite some time that the current model is unsustainable - but also obvious that the rich and powerful capitalists who benefit from it will fight to the bitter end, even if that means destroying the planet in the process.

On another note, it's odd how some things appear on BBC world in other languages, but not in English.

There will certainly some upheaval and some fundamental change in the way things are done in the nearish future, or either we won't be here or things will be very ugly.

I remarked to someone yesterday that the single biggest obstacle to climate change remedies is right wing billionaires or billionaire funded capitalists successfully taking the reins of power in countries. Our democratic systems are easily abused by those with money and therefore in some ways this concept is correct.
What we need, I said, is some right wing billionaire committed to climate change but is that a binary opposition?

I think I get it now.
    Right wing billionaires bad.
    Left wing billionaires good.

If you read the post you refer to, you're actually completely wrong.

    Thanks for turning up though.

Capitalism is fine... we're due a recession... it's the normal cyclical nature of the system.

People calling for the end of it usually have no actual suggested alternatives... thigh at least the more honest try to push a fluffy version of Soviet communism. A bit laughable considering the environmental record...

Other people just like wallow in misery.

Also... Finnish scientists reporting on capitalism has as much credibility as Finnish economists reporting on climate change.

    Stick to what you know.

Capitalism is fine for a relatively small percentage of the world's population.
The vast majority of UK citizens fall withing that privileged group and have little awareness or concern for those less fortunate.

Didn't turn out well for the USSR, China, North Korea, Venezuela etc. At least 20 million people starved, executed or worked to death in the USSR alone then multiples of that in Mao's China during the "Great Leap Forward".

The alternative to rampant free-market disaster capitalism is not Stalin or Mao. There are many ways of doing things.

This was a specific reply to a poster who was writing about how the end of capitalism would require the dispossession of "everything they own into state hands". This is exactly what happened in Russia and China to terrible effect for the ordinary people that the socialists claim to care so much about. Didn't Oil rich Venezuela try to create a socialist utopia?

I was wondering when someone would turn up with this sort of tripe. predictable. (And now it will be all shouty and I will be accused of denying what Stalin, mao and all the other bonkers despots did, leading to denying the holocaust. Twas ever thus. Sigh.);)

Paranoid moi? The point I was making was that if one decides to take away everything that people have worked for and redistribute it in the name of "equality", History has demonstrated that the consequences are never much to write home about. One thing is for sure, life never ever improves for the proletariat.

I would dispute, in terms of capitalists your use of "everything that people have worked for" most capitalists have never done an honest days work in their lives. And I mean sh*tbags like "Sir" (which should have been removed) Philip Greed.
