According to a preacher in America. Ah well, have a listen, as true today as it was in 65.

Which end are you talking about? The start end or the stop end?

    The beginning of the end?

The fact that I'm sitting here suggests to me that it's not the end of the end?

    Maybe the middle?

It's that new "Restaurant at the End of the World" which is causing the problem. The council insisted they couldn't have all the land that had been allocated for the car park in the architect's plans. Instead, some needed to be released for building homes for the future or planning permission would have been denied.

Nothing like a bit of fear to make the masses keep their heads down and conform to whatever the required norm is.

I am sad to say that this is accurate.

"Damn! Have you got signal? I don't have signal. What network are you on? I can't tweet my photo!!! This is TERRIBLE! This is LITERALLY the end of the WORLD!"

Re - Bazzer McGuire's Eve of Destruction, I paradoxical get uplifted when I hear it. It was in the charts when I left home in 1965 to start my student apprenticeship and it was a very exciting time for me. Instead of interpreting the words to mean that we should give up all hope (!) it was a time when I was getting a chance to get out there and right all the wrongs going on in the world!! Bazzer reminds me of this golden time for me. Ban the bomb, anti-apartheid, socialism to help the under privileged, gay rights, help the under-developed countries. We were the baby boomers and we were taking over!
----- Also there were girls and cars!!! Great times!

    And then I became a teacher -- Umm-m

Gay rights in 1965? You certainly were in the vanguard. Respect.

I wasn't leading from the front on that one, but would stick my hand up when necessary. It was illegal to practice homosexual acts until 1967 which to many was simply unjust. It is why the homophobia that is sometimes shown here upsets me so much, But lets not go there. This is about the END of the World!

I did march for CND and anti-apartheid. Marching was the thing to do!.

I'd better say what follows is tongue in cheek, but who can really say!? The physics is correct as far as we know.

One prime suspect for apocalypse is the imminent flipping of the Earth's magnetic field. The north magnetic pole will change ends with its south pole. We know that the Earth's magnetic field, which is instrumental in protecting us and all life on Earth from the harm that would otherwise be done by the Sun's aggressive solar radiation, has flipped every 50 to 100 thousand years in the past. We don't know when it may happen but the last one was 80 thousand years ago. We don't know how long the flip will take but it may actually be happening at the moment with indications of the fall of the Earth's field.

When it does flip, there will be a time when the magnetic field is zero and there will be nothing to deflect the solar radiation away from us. (I'm sure you knew that this is the cause of the Northern Lights by the way.) I'm of the opinion that if life is not damaged excessively then we are still bound to suffer a huge effect on our modern electronic technology. We have already seen strong Sun activity damage same, and that is with the Magnetic field doing its stuff. How would we manage without smartphones, PCs, TV and radio, and the huge myriad of medical equipment to name but a few.

If you read the web sites on this they tell us it will probably be ok. Well what do they know?? That worries me even more. Complacency or conspiracy??
