The BBC and my bag of chips

In recent months the BBC has a number of times reported a possible increase in food prices due to Brexit. Whenever they did the price of my bag of chips would jump by approximately 8%. I bore this with manly Stoicism, as would any manly Briton, realising that these were unusual, unstable times. This week, however, the BBC reported an imminent rise in food prices by 5% due to 'extreme weather' and the price of my bag of chips has surged upwards by 25%. Yes, that's right, 25 ******* %. I have realised that it's not the times that are driving up the cost of my lovely, fried potatoes. It's the BBC.

So, BBC - are you listening? Stick to reporting things that have happened and stop ruining my lunch.

Have you noticed any opportunistic price-hikes lately?

Lots of food items seem to be creeping up in price I've noticed.

Fruit and veg do seem to be getting pricier...

Maybe due to the shift in sterling? We do import a lot.

At the beginning of the year, potato merchants couldn't shift their taties they had they coming out of their ears. Ended up selling them for cattle food. However, the heat and lack of rain has meant poor harvest and teensie weensie ones that are rubbish for chipping.

No chips then. Too many carbs! Eat vegetables instead.

One particular type of cracker to which I am quite partial were a quid a packet a few months back (50 p in ASDA) - they were retailing for £1.40 this morning.

My knowledge of the stock market is based on the price of Welch's Grape Juice! It can vary in price day-to-day.

It's like petrol prices always go up before the actual crude has been processed.
I've notice an increase in the cost of my shopping recently. Haven't noticed a decrease in the cost of fruit and veg which have had an excellent harvest like apples. I wonder if they will go down when the home grown ones reach the market.
