The Ashes - who will England and Australia pick for the first test?

Will the fortune of the one day specialists displace some of the test specialists?

I want to see Archer bowl. Broad has had his day and, ever since he got struck when batting, his nerve has gone. Broad and Woakes. Jimmy isn't fit for the first Test anyway, I believe.

I want to see Roy and Bairstow open. I think Roy can open at Test level. I do think he can block. He can play defensively. Nobody else is presenting a compelling case.

    Moeen? Hmmm.

I agree - Roy and Bairstow to open. I was very impressed with Leach last year and I'd like to see him get another chance, perhaps instead of Rashid, who tends not to run through Test teams (though of course conditions must dictate). Craig Overton has had a good season. A return to the Test team for him?

It will be difficult to leave out any of the WC heros but I guess
Morgan, Plunket, Rashid and Wood will go
Ali, Anderson, Curran and Foakes to enter

With the Australian's going out in the semi finals they may find it easier to make changes than the English.
    My suggestion would be
    Cameron Bancroft
    David Warner
    Steve Smith
    Alex Carey
    Matthew Wade
    Travis Head
    Tim Pain
    Pat Cummins
    Mitchel Stark
    Josh Hazelwood
    Nathan Lyon

Agree with GDW. Wood is injured more often than he is fit, Broad is no longer the player he was and actually neither is Jimmy. Bring in Archer, Woakes and Curren. Moeen hopelessly out of form at the moment so needs to go back to his county for a while.

I don't think Jimmy's lost his touch, I didn't realise he was injured for the first match but I'd have him in as soon as he's fit. Woakes and Archer coming in would mean he wouldn't have to bowl as many overs and they would benefit from his experience... Sam or Tom Curran?!

Lots suggesting Moeen and Rashid to go out... going for no spinner? Or Leach (not seen much of him)? Mason Crane?

Jimmy. Don't know how things stand at the moment though injury-wise.

I don't have huge confidence in either Ali or Rashid.

    Definitely no Broad for me.

Attack: Jimmy, Jofra, Woakes, a spinner, another "quick"

    Openers: Roy and Bairstow

    Batsmen/all-rounders: Root, Stokes, Buttler, ?

Who would you have keeping wicket? Buttler or the ginger genius?
