Can anyone recommend a textbook that follows the new curriculum and has a lot of practice on each unit?

There isn't a new curriculum. The KS3 "curriculum" is a 2 page summary of lots of topics students should cover, listed in no particular order. That's why most schools look to the GCSE spec and just start that.

We use a textbook with no colour, minimal clipart, clear examples and lots of practice.
They are the CGP Textbook 1, 2, 3 series. 1 is best for weaker Year 7, 2 for main and high Year 7, 3 for main and high Year 8.
By Year 9 we start using GCSE books.

Try the Pearson KS3 Purposeful Practice books 1,2 and 3 which backs up the 2nd Edition Front of class books.

We have used CGP for the last two years in the school I am leaving. It is good. Evaluation by staff is mixed.
