Having had my Victor Meldrew moment. Here are some predictions for what the Tories will do now that they have the mandate. 1. Brexit crash out. Massive price rises and some things unavailable. Trade agreements might be negotiated, but not on favourable terms to the UK. 2. Money “promised” to the NHS will not be forthcoming. Expect NHS charges at point of service, higher prescription charges, charges to see GP, charges for hospital outpatients, maybe even charges for using A&E. There will be a contraction in NHS services as “foreign” doctors and nurses will effectively be hounded out. 3. Industry. Tata will dump steel and sod off. All remaining car manufacturers will close (Toyota, Ford, Nissan, JLR. Foreign ownership of utilities will be further encouraged. 4. Car manufacturers will be able to dump their polluting models on us because HMG will revoke the Euro 6 directives on emissions. 5. No improvements to rail services, or bus services, franchises will continue to be total pants except where there is a profit to be made. 6. They will come after your pensions, including revoking the “triple lock” on state pension. Age related rises will be brought forward. Those women who thought they might get compensated for loss of pension due to age synchronisation will get nothing. 7. Increase in corporation tax proposed will not occur. It might even be further reduced 8. Big companies that pay little tax like Amazon, Google, Ebay will not have any increases imposed, and will carry on as before. No UK tax havens will be closed or restricted in any way. 9. Uber will be reinstated with zero hours contracts becoming the norm everywhere. 10.Minimum wage will be stagnated. Benefits will be cut further including worsening of Universal Credit to guarantee people are even poorer. There will be a new definition of “poor” to show that no such exist. 11.VaT will rise, and be applied to more things. 12.Crime will rise as the supposed extra police will not be recruited now (the do not have to any longer, they won). 13.HS2 will get the go ahead. 14.They will find some way to tax the air that you breathe, even when it is heavily polluted (maybe not, but they would if they could).
