Team building activities for vertical tutor form

Discussion in 'Secondary' started by brassedoff, May 7, 2011.

  1. Hi all

Does anyone have any ideas of team building activities for vertical tutor group (involving year 7 through to year 13)? Have a few up my sleeve but am open to many new ones.

    Thanks in advance

There's some more pointers on Marshmallow/Spaghetti challenge and some other 'recipes' in a free online 'cookbook' from Holland, including Toothbrush Challenge and Yo-Yo challenge... we did a summary blog here, if that helps?

Activities in year teams (good when a younger year wins) and mixed teams (you could have each year group on a diff colour card and create teams at random, making sure each team has one of each colour).
    Find someone who...
Teaching something to others - for instance a year 8 could teach everyone to make origami swans. Or you could have different tables with a different student teaching something different at each.
    Circle time and quizzes.
But in reality what worked best ever was cards and board games. I built up quite a collection and some brought in their own - something they don't get to do much at home, and although it was a bit cliquey, the cliques were mostly a mix of years.
Always felt a bit sorry for the oldest ones though - important to give them a bit of a role else it feels like they are having to do babyish things.
