Has anyone made a leap and moved to Hawaii? Any experiences greatly appreciated please. Thanks.

I did work there (not teaching) back in 2005 for a few months (Honolulu)

Lovely place and as you might expect very laid back lifestyle but horrible drug abuse/drink problems and areas of racism towards white people.

Personally I found it a tad too claustrophobic and cut off - no variety as on the mainland. Food and everything is much more expensive than the mainland.

I would certainly say give it a go as I did enjoy it once I'd worked out the slowwwww lifestyle and which areas to avoid.

I lived in Hawaii too and loved it, but yes, being white can make you a target for racists. However, being English on a Bangor PGCE can make you a target for university lecturer racists, so hey ho.
