Hello, I am in my final year at University and am studying English Orthography and the difficulties faced by teachers when teaching children spelling as part of my dissertation.

I would be very grateful if anyone could answer some of the below questions.

Please can any one tell me how you find the teaching of spelling? What you do you struggle with? What methods do you find works best? Phonics? Rote Rule Learning?
Do you find there's a correlation between good readers and good spellers?
What are your thoughts on spelling reform?

Any other thoughts on spelling would be gratefully received and appreciated.

    Thanks

    Phonics
Good readers aren't always good spellers
No one has been able to explain how spelling reform would deal with homophones - would we need to change words? Time and expense would be obvious problems

I agree with Msz.Phonics is the way to go!
I had a child last year who was amazing at reading, but awful at spelling.
