Target grades - how do you set them for Year 7s?

Discussion in 'Modern foreign languages' started by dominic_mcg, Jul 4, 2011.

  1. Our year 7 targets are "English KS2 grade minus one". So a child with level 5 in KS2 SAT gets a 4a in MFL in Yr7. Target grades for yr 8 and 9 are previous MFL NC Level + one full Level. A child with English SAT level 5 at KS2 will generally have a MFL end of KS3 target of 6a - even if they have no talent for languages.

Our target grades are based on CAT data, the test being taken quite early in Y7. I am informed that the mean CAT score is the best predictor for MFL. The verbal score is the best predictor for English, but not MFL apparently.
I don't think anyone pays excessive attention to these targets at our school, thankfully.
