Taking Foundation French GCSE early

Discussion in 'Modern foreign languages' started by gmacleod, May 16, 2011.

  1. What is the point of a school making year 9 students take foundation tier French GCSE, especially those who would be capable of gaining grade A/B if they continued into Y10/11 ?
    Any ideas?

Hope of increasing the number with a chance of a C grade without needing to push the GCSE in KS4? This could help increase number attaining Ebacc, without changing KS4 provision.
  3. Yes, could be. Not good for the students though, if they are denied a likely A/B grade if they continued into year 10/11?

I agree with BrightonEarly. Whoever brought in this idea did not necessarily do so with the students' interests in mind, but with the school's. They ought to be the same thing, but they're not. The Ebacc's requirements can be met - and that makes the school look good - without any KS4 provision. It ticks a box - so job done and onto the next one.
