A border between NI and the mainland is something they seem to see as a price worth paying, but between E Sussex and Kent?

As someone Kent born and bred, I'm in favour of this for all ordinary visitors too...:D

Depends, probably those south of the Medway would quite like to split from those in the north.

It's more about living east or west of the Medway than north or south.

Born west of the Medway makes me a Kentish Man, but living to the east. Doesn't matter - we are all Kent!

[On edit] Definitely NOT a Londoner! Born in the Weald!!

Is this just a softening up exercise so that when border checks are put on the Menai Bridges and approaches to Liverpool the government can maintain that there isn't a border on the Ireland of Ireland or in the Irish Sea?

That lends itself to a rather easy and uncomplimentary re-working don't you think?

I trust these Kentish border guards will be properly trained in the fine art of checking passports prior to entering the EU, ie a Gallic shrug and a nonchalant wave through.

If it keeps the DFLs out then it could be a good thing.

A combination of possible further Brexit lockdown, and lorries unable to get to Europe = another round of panic-buying and even bigger shortages than earlier this year.

Sainsburys was short of a number of 'regular' items yesterday - including toilet rolls.

'Passports to enter Kent? Does this mean Kent is still in the EU'?

    (Asking for a friend!)
