Systematic, Synthetic Phonics - Reading for Life or Reading for Tests?

Discussion in 'Primary' started by newbster72, Nov 16, 2011.

  1. Hi there,
I am currently writing a research paper about the proposed phonics screening in Year 1.
    My areas of focus are:-
    - The promotion of synthetic phonics in the classroom - is it effective in practice?
    - The test - will it enhance the children's opportunity for learning, enjoyment and progression or will it merely be a tool to benchmark children against national results.
    - How will this formalised testing affect the classroom and what can teachers do to address this issue.
I am very interested in your views.
    Many Thanks

  2. I work for Get Reading Right - thought you should see the free ebook we have produced. It is designed to help teachers introduce the concept of non-words:
