Supply work, childcare can it work?

Yes, I have a child at primary school and I do supply.
I won't say it's easy but it is doable. I can do it due to stuff you already seem to have considered:
    a) I usually only do pre-booked supply
    b) quite often the after school club can take my child on an ad hoc basis
    c) I do have a friend who could pick up my child if the after school club can't take her. Fortunately that's never happened.
Consideration for childcare does mean that I'm not as flexible as other supply teachers (i.e. I can't do emergency morning bookings 'cos I have to take child to school. If it's pre-booked, I can arrange something) so I do think that I've probably missed out on work because of this.
So I've no words of wisdom really. Is there anyone you know who could be a fallback option in case the after school club is busy on the day you do supply?
