Supply - Tutoring year 5 boys - any ideas for creative activities?

Discussion in 'Supply teaching' started by kimwilson163, Jul 19, 2011.

  1. Hi all, my supply agency have given me two weeks of work in the holidays - tutoring 6 year 5 boys each day. The head wants this to be a huge success, and wants learning to be based on creative, practical ideas rather than textbook work. With a specialism in early years, i have done a lot of practical activities with younger pupils, but have never taught year 5s. I have a few ideas that i want to develop further, building a newspaper tower, viking ships, some investigations and problem solving, creative writing using costume, but i was wondering if anyone else had ideas for pieces of work based on practical activities for year 5 boys, these boys will be year 6 in September, and we are looking to give them the best possible start to the year. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and ill happily share my ideas with anyone else in need.

  3. A lot will depend on what the objuective for the tutoring is. Is it to improve literacy - writing or reading or both, or numeracy, or confidence or .......?

  4. What a fab job to get though.

  5. Im not sure of the learning objectives yet, I assume to improve skills in numeracy and literacy. It will be a fantastic job if I can pull it off! Hoping my inexperience with tutoring wont let me down!
