Supply teaching: limited vs PAYE vs umbrella

I have been offered a .4 supply teaching role from September, which sits well with plans for educational consultancy work following my phased retirement resignation from primary SLT. I had presumed I would set up as sole trader (or limited company) and then invoice, but have since been warned about IR35. Suddenly this all seems complicated, particularly as I have accepted another .2 contract on a PAYE basis. Umbrella companies have been mentioned but I've always gone by the principle of 'cut out the middle man' and am reluctant to consider this. Advice would be much appreciated!

Paye. You can split your tax between your employers.
