Supply teaching in Bedford

Discussion in 'Supply teaching' started by charlottejones_, Nov 10, 2011.

  1. Hi,
I'm a supply teacher soon to be relocating to Bedford and was wondering if anybody knew of any good supply agencies in the area? I've had a look, but it looks like the LA don't have their own supply service (like my current LA do) which is a shame. Any advice more than welcome!
    Thanks, [IMG]
  2. Primary or Secondary. I'm with a primary agency in Milton Keynes. Very happy with them. Bedford have only just discontinued their local authority list.
  3. I'm a primary teacher too, specialism in Early Years. It's a real shame they've got rid of their LA list. Does your agency cover the Bedford area or just Milton Keynes?

Kirklees has a supply service and it is a neighbouring authority. Some supply teachers come in from Teaching Personel.
  5. Not sure, I think mainly MK. Suits me as I never travel more than 20 minutes away.
If you ring the local authority I'm sure they'd tell you how to get on supply lists. The local authrity one was Heart but I'm not sure whether they are still operating as such or whether they've just moved to private control or what. I tried registering with them last year but they weren't taking on more staff then. They probably knew they were going to be disbanded.
  6. Yes, Teaching Personel work quite a bit in the area, so do Ranstad.
  7. Thanks for the advice, good to know, [IMG].

I'm with an agency that's not to bad that covers the bedford area and cambs if you want to head northwards a little for work. PM me if you want the contact details.
  10. I didn't think Kirklees was anywhere near us but didn't want to show my ignorance and hadn't bothered looking it up. Glad that's sorted! Easy mistake to make.[IMG]
  11. I used to work through Protocol and in the past would have recommended them but I am not sure about that now since they have failed to get me any work for about 2 years.
I do not live in the Bedford area but I seem to remember that Protocol advertised for cover supervisors there through the Reed webssite a few months ago. The disgusting thing about this advert was the pay rate - up to £145 per day. This may have been a mistake and may not have been the fault of Protocol since I have thought that Reed have often been incompetent in terms of their proof reading.
  12. Protocol are among the more hopeless of agencies, against some pretty stiff competition, too! I joined Protocol, but heard nothing more from them. I also subscribed to e-mail job alert sites, such as Reed, CV Library, etc. Sometimes a job would be advertised through Protocol for which i would duly apply. In responce to this, i would get an e-mail from Protocol, inviting me to register with them!
I wonder if anyone has got any work by responding to adverts on these job alert sites. At one time, I subscribed to four or five teaching ones, and applied for upwards of a dozen everyday. Very occasionally, i would get a very belated rejection, but mostly, after the initial confirmation, nothing.

  13. I currently work in Milton Keynes and highly recommend Randstad Education - I know that they cover the Bedford and Northampton areas as well.

  14. Do they pay well? I currently get £120 a day plus holiday pay.
  15. Pretty much the same as that - lots of work though so if you're not getting as much as you need it's worth bearing them in mind
  16. No. I'm getting enough and all very local.
