Supply teachers protest march and petition: excellent coverage by C4 news!

Discussion in 'Supply teaching' started by pedigree, Apr 12, 2010.

  1. Excellent Channel 4 news report and video [9/04/10] on the unacceptable and unregulated use of unqualified staff namely cover supervisors in place of properly qualified supply teachers. Check out link below on the protest march and petition handed to DCFS:

Many thanks to Lucy Orchard and others for their persistent efforts in raising this most important issue.
Very well done to all who attended including the NUT rep!

  2. Will there be a big one scheduled for 2011? Lucy where are you?

  3. Next protest march on April 11th. I don't know full details yet but I would like as many as possible to attend and show support. If you cannot attend in person then please lobby your own MPs by letter or, even better, in person at their constituency surgery.
We need to make clear to all those in any sort of position of authority such as the Ministers of Educatio what the real situation in education is since they do not seem to know. Nick Gibb, for instance, does not seem to know the difference between unqualified staff and unqualified teachers. When asked to answer a written question in the House about the use of unqualified staff teaching lessons he only referred to the use of unqualified teachers and made no mention of the possible thousands of support staff such as Cover Supervisors, Higher Level Teaching Assistants and Teaching Assistants who are teaching. Nor did he clearly state that many of the unqualified teachers may be teaching illegally.
