I've been doing supply for a little while and the agency has mentioned that a couple of schools have put me on their list of preferred supply teachers. Which is kind of cool, but is this something schools actually do, or is it just the agency trying to imply I'm more likely to get work so as to keep me with them?

  3. Happens.
We have a list of all who are avaiable each week...
Of that list we have a pecking order of who we prefer etc, all the way down to who we would only ask in if we would be forced to cancel classes as the alternative....
Though I don't imagine that most schools state these names categorically t agencies, though it becomes apparent...

  4. Yes, some schools do specify names. I am on a few.
At my agency you are highlighted in a bright colour if you are a preferred teacher at a particular school. You are also in a different colour if you would prefer NOT to go to a particular school.

  5. There is probably another colour if the school don't want you but they didn't tell me about that.

I was definitely a preferred teacher at one school years ago, via a private agency. The Deputy head heard from the Science HOD about how I had managed classes on my first day there, with all the set work completed (I'm an MFL specialist) and I was told that they'd rather have me back for Science than any of the Science specialists they'd been sent previously that term.
It led to me getting quite a lot of MFL work there in the end too.
I don't think I'm on any school's preferred list with my LA agency or, if I am, they're ignoring it as I'm on the top of the payscale and the agency makes more money if they send an NQT.
In the last week I've been contacted twice, each time for cover Supervisor bookings which they have been told in no uncertain terms that I will not take. The first call offered me two hours CS work at a nearby school. The latest call asked if I would please help them out and travel to a school 10 miles away for one hour of CS work!
I told them again that I don't do CS work as I'm a teacher, which was when the 'please can you help us out this one time' request came in. I suggested that they offer it to someone unqualified on their books instead.
