I am a Qualfied teacher but with not enough experience as a supply teacher yet. I have signed up with two agencies; one of them has already contacted me to work as a cover teacher. Then, I did the job, and this week they have contacted me again to offer me another covering position, but It is 35 miles away from my home. I don't know what to do. If I don't have experience as a supply then I will have to do covering, but if I carry on accepting more cover positions I cannot work as a supply. Does anyone know about this? Should I carry on accepting more cover positions to get experience?

35 miles is rather a long way to travel to work as a cover supervisor.

Tell the agency that you only willnaccept work as a teacher not as a cover supervisor. If you are a qualified teacher, you have taught classes and you are able to do supply teaching. It sounds as though the agencies are trying to exploit you by offering you work at a cover supervisor and paying you a lower daily rate.

If the agencies can't offer you work as a teacher, then find agencies that can.

I've found that if someone is on day to day supply there is little difference in secondary between a cover supervisor and a supply teacher, especially if covering a subject that isn't their specialism.

I had to cover a Maths teacher and my subject is History and MFL, and I was on my own up until the last period .I could manage otherwise.
