    Can a head of department on the standard teacher contract be forced to come into school on GCSE results day? Seems odd to me, but I'm prepared to be wrong!

    Indeed not. That day does not come within the 195 days over which a teacher can be directed. A head teacher can request for volunteers, but no one has to volunteer.
