Summer holiday homework for Y1?

Discussion in 'Primary' started by chocciemad, Jul 19, 2011.

  1. Hi guys, I am looking gfor some advice please. Parents have asked for a homEwork pack for their children to complete during the summer holidays. I was just wondering if anyone else does this and what kind of things to you include eg ideas that parents can carry out at home or worksheets?
    Thanks

  3. Visit the library and borrow some books and read--there is often a summer holiday reading club/competition.
    Write a book review.
Go shopping, pay and receive change!
Have fun and enjoy being 6.
    In no particular order!

Any or all of these will teach a child things far more valuable than any schoolwork will. (Don't even consider worksheets...it is the HOLIDAYS!)

Go shopping with cash and let the child pay.

Read lots and lots of books.

Play board games and do jigsaw puzzles on rainy days.

    Learn to play chess.

Go on endless picnics (including at least one in the rain) and look at the wild life (bugs and leaves and flowers and all sorts)

Play junior monopoly for endless days.

Have a 'no electrical amusements' day.

Visit grandparents and stay overnight without parents.
