Suggestions to improve the design of the site for people with visual impairments

    Hi,

If anyone has any visual impairments please can you leave suggestions here about how we can improve the design of the site to make it easier for you to use the forums?

I'll feed these back to the dev team to check what is feasible for us to incorporate in the current design.

    Thank you.

Have to say I'm not visually impaired myself,
but I did find the new 'stark white' on the new site quite glaring and have had to alter the settings.

As someone who is familiar with the difficulties of ' black on stark white' for dyslexics, I have to say a less bright background would potentially be beneficial?

Less white on the screen please. I don't have eyesight problems all of the time but do suffer from migranes and cluster headaches very frequently and there are a couple of days a week where I find TES far too glary and painful.

As RedQuilt, I don't have eye problems but do dislike so much white. We used to have a choice of colour font and background. Couldn't that be reinstated?

Off white rather than stark white maybe?

    Whiteboard white
    Neglected child shirt-collar white
    PE kit by April white
    Tapioca white

I am going to echo the comments above as such things would certainly improve my enjoyment of TES.
Not least because it would allow me to stop having to change my screen settings between websites.

Not that I would class myself as "visually impaired"
    At last not yet :(

This wee box of functions from the BBC website (link in previous post) seems really good. Just having 4 different colour/contrast options would make a big difference to some users of this site . . . .

    Hi,

Thank you all for your suggestions.

This seems to be the general consensus about the background colour.

    Thank you @kibosh

I'll pass the thread link to my colleagues.

thanks to the person who made linked to the thread and bumped it up for me to find!
I do have some visual difficulties and sometimes use a screen reader.
The white background is terrible and significantly affects how long I can read around in the forum.
Pale text is another problem. Where text is light grey I can barely see it.
Text that pops up on hover over is a particular niggle , especially if that information is important. Drop down menus are a nightmare for me generally eg when shopping online. Also anything that is only visisble when you hover over it..you first have to find it to do that.
Id like the contrast between the posts to be more obvious, it all looks the same to me.
Id like to have the option to remove the side section with posters on line and most watched thread, as I don't need this and it clutters the page.
Id like the dots that take you to first unread post to be more obvious.
Id like to be able to stay logged in so that I dont have to keep logging in every time I arrive here.

Im happy to check out anything you want trying!

Yellow text on a blue background.
    A 'Good Grief' button.

Yellow on blue? That would need a 'Good Grief' button :(

The next couple of lines are suggestive of a 'Good Grief' button.

I don't think I'd cope well with yellow on blue, rac. Not well at all.
