Successful Maths Interventions for Year 5 Pupils

    Hi All,

I am a Y5 teaching assistant who runs weekly half hourly maths interventions with a group of six pupils in a state primary school. The children are currently classified as being at the lower end of age expected, all happen to be boys and in most cases there is a reasonable will to learn, if they are a tad distracted!

As part of a coaching initiative myself and a colleague are looking at how we can make these very short interventions more effective. The plan is to try out different tweaks to the intervention and observe how they work in our maths sessions. I would be very grateful for any advice/tips from other TA's or teachers who are familiar with Pearson's Rapid Maths programme.

In fact, any general suggestions re maths interventions would be really useful.

    Many thanks in advance. Al.
