Substitue for red wine vinegar?

  1. I am making a beef recipe that requires red wine vinegar, just realised that i have almost run out of it, i have rice vinegar, could i use that instead?

    In braises etc. the wine vinegar is just to add some acidity. Any vinegar would do - even malt at a push. Just not too much if it is malt! As rice vinegar has a relatively mild flavour, it will be fine.
