Subject resource ideas needed please...

Discussion in 'Secondary' started by dexterwilliams, Apr 14, 2011.

  1. Hi,
I am currently writing a piece of software which will be freely available to anybody who would like to use it and am trying to gather some key resource ideas for different subjects using a Flash based program. The idea is that it should provide simple, functional resources that can be used on whiteboards or students can load from the website.
My background is in teaching ICT, so while I can guess at some key items it would be nice to have some input from you as specialists.
I have built the main interface and I would like some suggestions for pages of information or games/quiz/interactive resources that can be added. This could include "grab the word" type games, physics simulations, images, website links (so I don't re-invent the wheel!)... or anything that can you can imagine! Flash is very powerful and I'm happy to spend extra time programming something that people will find useful.
The only page that really works at the moment is "Geography" so if you scroll over to that you will see the idea of how it is going to break down into sections.
The page is available here: http://www.themrw.com
Any suggestions regarding the screen size, menu options are also welcome as this is the start of the project and will be much easier to change now.
Many thanks in advance for any input you can give, and all the good ideas will be on by the end of Easter, so perhaps think along the lines of what you would need for next term.
    All the best,
    D Williams

  3. Thanks for the suggestions coming in from yesterday... I am wondering if the general opinion is to go for the higher screen resolution of 1024 pixels instead of 800, if anybody knows a reason why I should stick to 800 then please let me know as you will get more detail in the images... the only problem will be if school computers are restricted in resolution size.

  4. Its a good base
I found the navigation of the top bar a little 'quick'
I think a cluncky 'stop at every station' approach may work better.
I also think having your name on it looks a little "I made this in my bedroom" rather than a professional site.
Overall though, could be a good platform and quite uncluttered.

  5. Thanks Betamale,
I think you're right about the name thing so have got rid of it!
I've also halfed the menu scroll speed, which may make it easier to see what's going on.
Somebody must have a fun idea for their subject that they'd like to see on the pages... no?

  6. Thanks to a brilliant suggestion I would also welcome any comments on a spelling program:

Only 6 words at the moment, but it's now ready to have loads more added very easily.
    Thoughts?

  7. Spelling Game Update: http://www.themrw.com/spelling/
    Choose from categories of words
    Play a spelling test

That bee that follows the cursor got on my nerves after about 30 seconds!

  9. ... OK, there is a 'Hide Bee' button now!
