Subject Knowledge Audit (Chemistry, Durham)

Discussion in 'Science' started by 60190, Aug 22, 2011.

  1. I will be starting a PGCE (Chemistry) at Durham in September. I have been brushing up on my subject knowledge before the course starts - all 3 Sciences for KS3 and KS4 and A level Chemistry.

I was wondering if anyone had experience of the subject knowledge audits at Durham (or any other University)? Are they in the form of a written test, interview or a self audit? Also do you know what level you are normally assessed at (Is it up to 1st year degree for your specialist subject or do they normally focus on just KS3 and KS4?)? I'm just wondering where to focus my attentions for the next few weeks.

    Thanks.

At Birmingham the Audits were only really a self evaluation tool that was performed at each stage of the course. There were no questions to answer, you just had to rate your knowledge and confidence to teach the different areas of the national curriculum.

It is always good to brush up on your knowledge though as it can only help you when your trying to teach the smae stuff to a class of kids!

  3. Thank you both for your help! Much appreciated.
