Struggling to find a school (GTP) English with Drama

Discussion in 'Trainee and student teachers' started by kritur, Dec 31, 2010.

  1. What have you done already to find a school? Just written to them? Most schools only take on GTPs they have a prior relationship with, they like to know what they're getting and have a good idea that you'll fit in with the school/department etc. For this reason they tend to take on their former TAs, technicians, secretaries, volunteers etc. If you could volunteer in secondary schools then you would be in a much stronger position to gain a GTP placement.

Most post compulsory teachers manage to gain a place after first working in the school. If you can find employment through supply rather than looking first for a fully fledged GTP place then you may have more success. You may also need to expand your search area. SW has the main large teacher training universities and the numbers leaving there tend to swamp the local market.
Be aware that GTP places are extremely limited particularly for non shortage subject areas
