Striking... where are the facts?

    you are asking a basic question about information, power and politics all of which are completely bound up with vested interests. As a citizen it is up to you to distil what you can and reason out the sense between the cracks of the disinformation, lies, spin, bile and propaganda we are surrounded by. As an educated person you have been equipped with the critical tools to sift, analyse and assess this kind of stuff - as a trained person, or a person 'prepared for the challenges of the 21st century' you probably aren't. In our digital age we are mainly prepared to be consumers (ill-prepared) and not to cost the state too much.
    BB's quick advice: Apply some thought to what motivates any purveyor of 'facts'. Read the union sites: they are the ones arguing for your rights, the government is hell bent on reducing them or taking them away, most of the press and other media is on the government's side or has a built-in bias against trades unions or public sector workers or any group who stand up for themselves.
