Stories set in the Middle Ages for low-level readers or EAL

I'm looking for suggestions for books that would be suitable for EAL students (learners whose first language isn't English). I have a group that is fairly low-level - maybe Elementary to Pre-Intermediate. We are doing The Middle Ages (particularly manor life) in History, and are pairing the unit with a book club. Other books in the club are The Inquisitor's Tale, Crispin, The Midwife's Tale and a couple of others but they are too long / dense for these EAL students.
Any suggestions welcome whether it be short stories, novels or plays - we just need a literature connection. It can be anything related to the Middle Ages.
