State Pension to Private one

Discussion in 'Independent' started by Hannahvictoriamorgan, Apr 28, 2012.

  1. I just wondered if anybody has gone from state to private and transferred their pension. I have just got a new job in a private school and they have their own pension scheme. Have been in the state sector for 4 years and not sure what to do with that pension???

I would be surprised if a private scheme matched the TPS.

I believe that you can fix your state pension and it will remain dormant or transfer it to the new scheme. As Karvol says, it won't be as good as the TPS and this has put me off moving to some schools which didn't offer TPS. Despite all the changes, TPS is still very fine and beats many private pension schemes. However, with only four years in the TPS you are not losing out that much. Why not contact the new pension provider and TPS to ask them, and also ask the scholl why they don't pay into TPS.
