starting on M2?

  1. Hi All,
I'm currently an English GTP and already thinking about my NQT year. Although I'll be a qualified English teacher, my degree is in Drama (I went to drama school and worked as a drama workshop leader in schools before entering teaching.)
With this in mind, do you think it is realistic to aim for M2 in my NQT year, based on the fact that I can offer two subject specialisms? I know it's down to each HT but do you think two subjects are adequate justification in aiming for M2 on the payscale?
    Thanks in advance.

    I wouldn't have thought so.

No. Being able to teach two subjects might help you get a job over a teacher who can only teach one (although inmy experience, most English specialists can also teach drama and do so), but it really, really will not get you M2. Trust me on that one.
