Starting as an LSA in a reception class next week

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by Sponge_Cake, Aug 28, 2012.

  1. Can anybody tell me the usual day to day routine of a reception class?
I have never worked in one before, only year 3 upwards so this will be a change.
Also anything else I may need to know
    Thanks in advance !

I think every class will be a little different so you need to talk to the teacher. I would expect you to be supporting children in their play rather than taking groups which you might have done in KS2 and making observations to use to assess progress. The teacher will tell you what he or she wants here. Plus, of course, changing pants, comforting tearful children and lots of messy activities!
One thing I find people coming from higher up the school do is tidy up after the children - don't do this - getting equipment out and putting it away themselves is all part of the learning experience in Foundation Stage. Sadly I see children lose this independence as they go up the school.
