Specialist subject for GTP Primary...?

Discussion in 'Trainee and student teachers' started by Dutch11, Mar 13, 2011.

  1. As a complete novice newbee to this site and forum, I hope this first question doesn't cast doubt over my recent acceptance onto a GTP scheme (2011)!! Having read a number of postings on these forum pages, I have noticed that there have been a few references to researching "a specialist subject" prior to starting the GTP course - I am assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that this is for Secondary GTP as opposed to Primary?!? Is there anyone out there who could clarify this point for me please?!?

Primary teachers are trained to deliver a curriculum covering a variety of subjercts to an age group. That said it can be advantageous to have specific knowledge in a core subject such as Maths or English- this would be your undergraduate degree.

  4. Thanks for your reply - it's really nice to know that there are lots of people out there who know what is involved in the GTP and understand all the little queries that arise - no matter how silly! I suppose the core subject could also be something that you have interest it; art, P.E, music etc?? My degree probably wouldn't help much - Psychology and Business Management!?!
    Thanks again for your reply!
