Sourdough friendship cake

  1. Well I've just started eating Herman - apple and cinnamon and it was delicious. I'll take the remainder to my relis over christmas - just hope he travels well! Thanks Lapinrose - is it easy to convert it to a savoury recipe?

    There was one of these going round the village about 20 years ago & I loved it, but after a while we'd all had enough. I'd love to try again, does anyone know how to make the starter myself as I don't know anyone who has the dough.

    I would start with a cup each of flour, sugar and milk and 12g of fresh yeast, that should start things bubbling. I changed my former Herman into a savoury dough, then took half and changed back to a sweet dough by adding the 3 cupfuls as above.
