Songs for EAL Children

Discussion in 'Primary' started by missyscarlet, Mar 15, 2012.

  1. Hi eveyrone,
    I have year one and have about 5 children with little or no English. I'm doing some extra work with them which I do at learning centres time so I can spend about 20 mins a day with just them. I have bingo and memory games but I'm at a loss for what songs are good for these children.
    I've taught them Head shoulders knees and toes but they know body parts now so does anyone know other songs that are good for EAL, for teaching topics like myself, my family, clothes, animals, etc, etc, or any songs that work well with EAL children.

    Thanks a million [IMG]

    Not sure these will be perfect for you, but Singing Phonics is fabulous and may well help your other children as well.

  4. I think songs like;
    - 10 green bottles
    -hokey pokey
    - 12345, once i caught a fish alive
    - 12 buckle my shoe
    - this is the way we.....wash our teeth etc
    - old McDonald had a farm

    a lot of the times you can adapt songs to suit yourself.
    I have recently done a 'ch' food song - 'I like cherries, I like cherries
    Yes I do
    And my tummy likes it too (to the tune farajaka)
