    Be aware though that any contact with a prospective school is 'judged'.
    In your position, I'd just apply tbh.

    Calling the Head would probably not achieve much as they are hardly likely to tell you the school is second rate.
    The best way to get to the truth is to manage to speak to people who teach there. They are schools who have a bad reputation as seen from the outside but are great places to work in. There are also schools which are the opposite and are a big disapointment once you start teaching there.
  5. Put the effort into you application. If you phone with no clear reason for doing so you'll not make a good impression.
