Two of the Strictly dancers were in Potter Halloween fancy dress last night.

    I say he's an interloper.

    no.
but then neither should minions, pirates, snow white, star wars or frozen characters. if you're going to dress up at halloween, it should be halloween related, really. it's not national fancy dress day.

    now there's a cracking idea!

I really hate all the nonsense that is Halloween these days but, in order to avoid being loathed and detested by my youngest child, I took her and her friend to 'treat' people we know. One of our neighbours was having a party, everyone had to come dressed as a dead pop/rock star. The door was opened by the corpse of Kurt Cobain!

People can't dress as fictional witches and wizards for Halloween?
    That's a very prescriptive view!

Who decided what is "Halloween related"? If you look back to the roots of the celebration, people just dressed up in disguises so as not to be recognised. Over time, these disguises got spooky and ghoulish. Gradually, North Americans re-introduced generic costumes into the tradition, and that has crossed back over the Atlantic to the UK.

which is a pretty good reason NOT to have generic costumes, imo.

You could give young Harry a try in Halloween but my money would be on Michael Myers.

Halloween is not about wizards. And there aren't any witches in Harry Potter, are there?

umm.. yeah... all the non muggle human females are referred to as witches.
