Short activity for Snail and the Whale?!

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by ktloux, Apr 28, 2011.

  1. Hi everyone,

I have an interview coming up soon for a reception job and have been asked to plan a story session. I only have 15 mins to do this in and have chosen the book 'The Snail and the Whale' and will be using puppets etc. I need to plan a 10 minute activity and wondering if anyone has any good ideas!! My only idea at the minute is a discussion on how we help other people. Would be grateful for any ideas. Thank you!
  2. Wishes and dreams are a key part of the story. You could ask the children about what they would like to do, let them discuss it in pairs/groups before feeding back. You could also ask them if they have been to the seaside and use pictures as prompts. This story rhymes and asking the children to listen for these, is a good way of keeping their attention. You could also focus on a particular page, picture and ask questions about it. The picture of the volcano and monkey up a tree is a good one to look at.
