Do you need a SENCo qualification to be a SENCo in Wales? I have previous experience of covering the role of SENCo in a school in England, would that be sufficient to be considered for the role? Any advice appreciated thanks!

Hi smeldred. You don't need any special qualification to be a SENCo in Wales. At the moment, you don't need QTS either. Under proposals being considered in the draft ALN Code for Wales, in the future you would be called an ALNCO (additional learning needs co-ordinator) and you would need to be a qualified teacher unless you're already in post.
