Hi, I qualified as a secondary school teacher last July and have been working as a sub teacher (when I can get anything!!) since then. I want to teach in special needs schools and as part of my PGCE I undertook an additional module/qualification in Special Needs Education and Inclusion and taught in a special needs school for 4 weeks as part of that qualification. So far I have had no luck in getting any jobs in special needs school or barely any subbing in any school. I want to take a course that specialises in SEN to boost my knowledge/skills in that area to hopefully improve my chances of getting teaching in special schools. I am based in N. Ireland so it needs to be an online/distance learning course as none of my local colleges offer any courses relating to special needs and I can't travel to England/Scotland/Wales to undertake a course. I have seen one on Strategies for Successful Special Needs Support through the College of Teachers - can anyone recommend them? I have also seen ones on the 'UK Open College' and 'Stonebridge Associated Colleges' but have heard mixed reviews about both of them and questions as to whether the courses are accredited or not? Can anyone recommend any courses/training providers? Thanks!
