SEN specialism

Discussion in 'Special educational needs' started by vixx2, Mar 7, 2011.

  1. Hi
I'm in my NQT year as a Spanish teacher but I am becoming increasingly aware that this is not something I would like to continue with next year due to large classes and very little time to get to know each student's needs in-depth.
Instead, I am very keen to work with students with different needs such as SEN or EAL in small groups on Literacy or Numeracy.
My problem is knowing how to approach applications for jobs like this considering I am coming from a Spanish specialism and I am only an NQT!
I do have experience of being a TA with 6th formers with SEN but that is about as far as it goes.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might get into Literacy and Numeracy teaching (primary or secondary) and whether this is feasible for my 2nd year of teaching, coming from an MFL PGCE?
    Many thanks
    Vicky
