secondary to primary after NQT

Discussion in 'New teachers' started by LERlee, Jan 11, 2011.

  1. Hey,
Just wanted a bit of advice regarding moving from secondary to primary teaching after my NQT year?
I had to relocate for my NQT year and i really really want to move back to Hull after finishing this year. Thing is i doubt a job in Hull is going to become available to me..
How hard do you think it would be for me to apply for Primary jobs? Should i not even bother?
    Any advice?

You need to find out about the local situation for experienced teachers in Hull. You are classed as experienced once you have completed induction and QTS allows you to teach either phase. However you need to convince a primary head that you can deliver the wider currriculum and work with the younger age group. Many gain experience from working in transition activities in secondary school. Many primary schools would consider secondary trained particularly to work with the difficult year 6.
