Secondary Mathematics PGCE?

Discussion in 'Thinking of teaching' started by Er1c7, Jun 26, 2011.

  1. Most Universities have been filling their PGCE course for many months and you may find that they are already full.
Can't help you about funding - sorry
You won't normally have much say in which school you go to for teaching practice. Usually you'll get 'contrasting' placements, say a leafy suburb and an inner city comp. That depends on the the location of your university and their connections with local schools.
If by 'teaching experience' your talking about the experience that you need before starting the PGCE course, any local school that will take you will do although you seem to be leaving it very late.
Supply and demand wise, my school has appointed 2 (or was it 3) NQT's in Maths for September, the last being only this week and I believe that there were a good number of applicant.
Finally if you aren't successful and want to go into teaching (rather than just looking for something to fill the time) try getting into a local school as a Cover Supervisor or Classroom Assisstant as the experience will stand you in good staed in the future.
    Good Luck
