Second subject!

Discussion in 'Trainee and student teachers' started by hworkman1, Jan 3, 2011.

  1. Hi James,
I was wondering if you could please offer me some advice? I'm a second year student at University of Bedfordshire training to be a PE teacher but I really would love to have a second subject as firstly it will improve my chances of getting a job and secondly I have a passion for science as well as for PE! I hav A levels in biology, chemistry and PE and was wondering if you knew of any ways I could make science my second subject to teach?

    Thankyou,
    Holly

You need to discuss this with your tutor to see whether teaching practices can be tailored to suit.Fundamentally you train with one specialism these days which gives you QTS which in itself is not subject specific. It does depend on size of school and timetabling but NQTS have been drafted in to teach other subjects such as ICT, PSE etc.

  3. Hi,

I too have the same A Levels and have been giving 'second subject' knowledge some strong thought as I will be applyin for jobs in this next term as I am due to complete my PGCE in PE this June and I know competition is going to be tough and having a second subject could/would be a plus to my application
I am due to commence my LP serial days in the next fortnight, would you recommend discussing with any of my tutors the possibility to observe, assist or even teach some science lessons during the LP?

    Regards

    Matt
