SCQF: Attainment drops under the new Scottish qualification

‘Official figures have exposed the full impact of new qualifications on Scottish pupils’ attainment by showing that the proportion of pupils attaining passes at the levels equivalent to the old Standard grade qualifications has dropped by a third.

The figures from exam body the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) are revealed in papers submitted to the Scottish parliament’s education and skills committee, which today is continuing its inquiry into whether the curriculum in Scottish schools is narrowing.’

What are your views on the fall in attainment? Are you surprised by the figures?

    No, not really.

The CfE isn't fit for purpose, in my view. This must have a knock-on effect with regard to Nat 5 results. Moreover, many schools have made it harder to take a range of qualifications.

CfE is - it's all been said before. No-one has been held to account for it. Those who championed it and got promoted by championing it, will be the first to adopt whatever the next curriculum turns out to be (back to basics, anyone?).

I'm sorry but the sheer volume of pupils who can't do the basics is enormous compared to only a few years ago.

The down by a third metric doesn't surprise me in the least.

If CfE had an automotive equivalent is would be a Lada or a Yugo.

    I must protest, sir.

My cousin had a Yugo back in the 1980s, and it always got him where he needed to go.

Hardly. The Lada Niva is immensely popular with off-road enthusiasts.

    Who can take CfE seriously?

I'd be happy for the return of 5-14 and 'O' Grade.

I'd be happy if the people sitting in front of me just behaved and showed a tiny wee bit of respect. No?

I'd be happy if the people sitting above me did the same.

With the internet consultation has never been easier.
Luckily LTS and the SQA minimised any consultation so as not to escalate our workload in the short term.

Oh, I was consulted all right. Then the education officers who were consulting the PTs told us why we were wrong.
